When it comes to uterine fibroids natural treatment is often an
option. This is because in most cases, the fibroids do not cause any
severe symptoms or complications.
Uterine fibroids, which are also called fibromyomas, leiomyomas, or
myomas, are very common among women who are of childbearing age. It is
estimated that as many as three out of four women will have uterine
fibroids at one time or another. Many women, however, do not even know
the fibroids are there. Many go undetected simply because most do not
cause any symptoms or complications.
Several of those that are discovered are actually found by a doctor
by mistake during a routine pelvic exam or ultrasound. When diagnosed
with uterine fibroids, many women do not even know what they are. By
definition, uterine fibroids are just growths that develop on the
uterus. They are not cancerous, and they very rarely develop into
cancer. Fibroids also do not cause an increased risk of uterine
cancer. Because fibroids are common and typically cause no problems,
most do not need to be treated in any way. For most uterine fibroids
natural treatment is sufficient if any treatment is needed at all. In
some cases, however, medical intervention may be needed to control
symptoms, if they occur.
Most uterine fibroids go undetected because they cause no
symptoms. Sometimes symptoms may be present, though. The most common
symptoms include heavy bleeding during menstruation, prolonged
menstrual periods, pelvic pain or pressure, frequent urination,
difficulty emptying the bladder, constipation, and leg or back
pain. Most of the time, these symptoms are mild enough that they do
not require much, if any, intervention. In fact, the most common
treatment for fibroids is to simply watch and wait. That is, doctors
recommend that patients report any changes in symptoms, and the
fibroid is monitored to make sure that it does not begin growing at a
rapid rate.
Some natural health practitioners also recommend changes in diet or
the addition of various herbal supplements to one's diet as a means
naturally treating uterine fibroids. While some patients have
experienced benefits from such things, there is no scientific evidence
regarding the benefits of such practices. For severe symptoms, it is
best to see a doctor to make sure that you will receive the proper
treatment.
